WOMEN’S
ORDINATION CONFERENCE
Why Ordain Women?
The ordination of women will
create changes that benefit the entire People of God.
Imagine:
Women
will participate in a primary, essential way in the sacramental life and
ministry of the church.
The
church will acknowledge and celebrate the full effects of the baptism of women
and foster their authentic call to ordination.
Women
will participate in the highest levels of decision-making within the church.
The
church, by allowing women access to all roles and positions, will cease to
perpetuate discrimination, devaluation, and tacit approval of other forms of
violence toward women in its structures and society.
Through
the ordination of women, the church will recognize, in practice and doctrine,
women as full persons, equal to men, created in the image and likeness of God,
and able to represent Christ, in the fullness of their God-given bodies, in the
celebration of the Eucharist.
The
church will reclaim its early tradition of the first centuries when women served
in priestly roles.
